ASSESSMENT
We’ll start with a free coaching call to understand your goals, your dynamics, the organizational stuff that won’t show up in a brief.
From there, each participant completes a short anonymous survey that establishes psychological safety and surfaces the priorities your retreat should address.

STRATEGIC AGENDA DESIGN
No cookie-cutter agendas: we’ll build yours from what the assessment reveals.
Mitch prioritizes the most critical issues first so your time together is spent on what will move the needle, not what’s easiest to facilitate.

FACILITATION
On retreat day, our facilitators lead your team through the agenda with a pace and energy that keeps everyone engaged and accountable.
Retreats range from 1-4 days depending on your team’s needs, from focused single-day strategy sessions to multi-day experiences involving San Diego’s best team building activities.

FOLLOW UP
You’ll leave with more than good intentions: within days, you’ll receive a detailed strategy (vision, objectives, commitments, owners, and deadlines) so nothing falls through the cracks.
We then schedule a follow-up to check progress and plan next steps.

Facilitators specialize in leading retreats, give the team enhanced levels of psychological safety, and create an equal playing field among the leadership team.
When you should not use a facilitator:
- You feel 100% confident leading the strategic planning process
- You don't mind facilitating, and you feel you can participate at the same time
- Your team will speak candidly regardless of who facilitates
- Your organization is already fully and explicitly aligned with your vision, mission, values and goals.
- You don't want an external perspective on your organization
- Your goals are to stay exactly where you're at. Status Quo is the way to go.
- You're not interested in creating a strategic plan with your group, and you'd prefer doing it alone.

How much time does it take?
For most organizations, we can have a complete strategic planning process completed within 3 months.
A sample timeline
- Prework- 4 weeks
- Strategic planning in person takes 2-5 days + post work as needed.
- Plan competition and roll out: 3 weeks.
This does not include the time needed to begin the implementation.
Who should we include?
Typically strategic planning for Simon Leadership Alliance engages the leadership team and/or the board of directors. You may want to include specific staff, SME’s or additional stakeholders included within parts of the process. We help you decide who would be included in the agenda planning part of the process.
